Windows Streaming Configuration Guide

Windows Streaming Media Configuration Guide

If you selected the Streaming Media VPS image when you signed up, then your system has been pre-built with the Windows Media Services software installed with basic configuration.

You can access the control panel by connecting to your VPS remote Desktop and then clicking on Start > Administrative Tools > Windows Media Services. From here, you can create new Publishing Points, which will be accessible at http://IPaddress/PublishingPoint1
(In this example example a default publishing point named PublishingPoint1 has already been setup for you).

Creating a new Publishing Point

  1. In the Windows Media Services window, expand the tree under your server's name
  2. Right click on Publishing Points, and select Add Publishing Point (Wizard), if this is your first time using Windows Media Services. You can use the (Advanced) option if you wish to have more control over your Publishing Point.
  3. You will have the choice of various kinds of Publishing Point, such as streaming something "live" or "on-demand".
  4. Follow the Wizard to create your Publishing Point.
  5. At the end you'll be able to specify a .asx link then you should be able to access it with a link to mms://IPaddress/PublishingPointName

Adding Media Files

An FTP space has been setup to allow for easy uploading of media files. Simply use your prefered FTP client to connect to your server using the username and password specified when you signed up. Your media files will be uploaded to the base FTP directory which is *C:\WMPub\WMRoot*  When adding a new publishing point you can simply select the required files from this directory.

Additional Information

Windows Media Services is a sophisticated streaming system with many configuration options.
