All of the following services are included as standard with our dedicated hosting servers at no additional charge.
You can remotely turn the power to your dedicated server on and off using our remote reboot APC Masterswitch unit. The web control panel will allow you the ability to control power to your server at any time - day or night. The reboot switch and control panel are physically independent of your server. This avoids the need to call us if your server needs a reboot. If the server remains unresponsive to a reboot you can call us anytime 24/7 to investigate further.
This service provides rudimentary filtering of traffic by port number. For example the firewall will reject all traffic to your server unless it is on a recognised port number, for example:

http |
80 |
|
https |
443 |
|
pop3 |
110 |

ssh |

The ports to be filtered will be agreed with you when your server is set-up. It is important that you consider fully which ports are required as blocking necessary ports could interfere with software services that use unusual port ranges.
The user does not have control of settings. Our support team can make occasional changes to your configuration but this should not be a regular requirement. If you require more control or sophisticated firewall settings, consider our dedicated Cisco firewall options.
We measure the higher of the inbound and outbound data transfer. Usage is measured over a monthly billing period which commences on the date your server goes live. GB=Giga Bytes.
If you have two or more servers then your transfer allowance is combined to give an overall transfer allowance.
Any usage above 250GB/month (per server) is charged monthly in arrears at 20 pence per GB on 14 day payment terms.
We monitor all servers with a ping test every 5 minutes on a 24/7 basis. If your server goes down we will pro-actively investigate. If hardware is the problem we will proceed to repair it.
Two dedicated servers can be connected together using a second Network Interface Card (NIC) in each server, together with a simple cross-over cable between them. The servers can communicate using private IP addresses and the second server doesn't even have to be visible from the internet. Data passing through the cross-over cable is not chargeable.
This approach is particularly common where a database server sits behind a web-server. There is no additional charge for this service where two servers need to be connected.
This service is only available if there is a spare network card (NIC) available on both servers. Servers come with 2 NICs as standard but our backup service (if selected) required the use of one NIC. NICs can be added to servers subject to sufficient space and riser slots being available. It will not be possible to add a 2nd NIC to 1U servers with a RAID card present.
You can have as many IPs as you can provide good technical justification for (per RIPE rules). There are no charges for IPs for Dedicated Sever customers. We are a Local Internet Registry (LIR) and a full member of RIPE so IPs are readily available.
Each and every dedicated server customer is assigned their own subnet, with the size of the subnet based on their immediate IP requirements. Out of the subnet we reserve 5 IPs for network address, broadcast address, redundant switch 1, redundant switch 2 and virtual gateway.
Your company's name will appear in the records at RIPE as assignee for the subnet, for example:
inetnum: 82.113.XXX.0 - 82.113.XXX.127
netname: XTRAORDINARY-ACMEHOLDINGS
descr: Acme Holdings Ltd assignment
We don't tolerate spammers and our IP ranges are not listed in anti-spam blacklists.
